Phuket Fantasea

This was a great evening and a must do for families and anyone who loves a good production.
We opted for the 2200baht ticket each for is and Caleb was 2000baht - Blake was free, which meant he had to sit on my lap for the show but that was ok.  Our ticket included a buffet dinner that was ok but not great.  Before you even get into the show there is heaps to do.
Everything had a very luxury feel to it!
This was the best I could do to 'dress up' with my limited wardrobe :) .
Caleb thought this was a great photo op :)
We got a bag of coi food and the boys really enjoyed this!
The bag was huge and there were so many fish to look at.
The gardens were really beautiful.
That was definitely 50baht well spent.
There was huge statues and stuff to look at around the park.
We went searching for tigers... Blake found a huge bird.
Blake has been lazy and is enjoying being carried.  Time to crack our Aunty Kim's sling we think! Mummy is going to have one very huge arm at this rate (daddy is too weak to carry him for too long lol)
Caleb found the cutest exhibit full of (we weren't sure) either rats with tails docked or I said maybe hamsters!

We found the tigers (sorry about the blurry photo)

When we left the boys both used some of their birthday money to buy a toy tiger each.

Blake was excited to see and touch an elephant ! It was very spikey he said.  After dinner the boys used some more of their money to get a henna tatto
The show was so awesome!!!! It had live animals, explosions, Fluro acrobats dancing and great sets and much more!

Derryn and I both were in stitches when one of the elephants did the biggest pee right at the front of stage and all the dances were also dancing around a big poo in the middle of the stage - small things lol!

All up the evening cost $210 (not including the toys ) plus $15 for taxis.  Not a cheap evening but well worth it!

Phuket mini golf

We spent the arvo at mini golf - a great activity for everyone (would have been even better with a big bunch of mates and heaps of beers lol - but two beers and two boys as what it was for us)

It was 18 holes for 220 baht for adults and 200 for kids - Blake was supposed to be free (said kids under 4 free) but that was only if he didn't want a club - yeah right !! Equaled about $35 for all of us -

we had some beers/soft drinks and dinner after and the arvo cost us about $60 all up!
Mummy actually got in a photo :)

When we finished they greeted us with super cold cloths - everyone enjoyed them
Caleb left his around his neck to help him cool off for ages.
We are still working on what the boys will eat... So far rice has been the winner - with meat from mummy's meal - I always wanted to be a vegetarian didn't I !?!?!?
They did love the carrot cut into a bowl (unfortunately spring rolls were not a winner , chips were eagerly enjoyed lol)
Daddy had an awesome curry! Yummo! By the way the final score card was daddy 1st and Caleb 2nd - much to Caleb's disgust :)

The long plane rides

We left our house at 230 in the afternoon to start our adventure - a very long adventure !

Cairns to Brisbane was a breeze - Derryn slept most of the way lucky thing!  The boys were perfectly entertained and behaved with a bag of $2 insects and their tablets.  I was pleasently surprised that Virgin actually provided us with a coffee and juice complementary!  score!

Our bags were sent all the way from Cairns to Phuket so that saved us one trouble.

We then had to wait at Brisbane airport from 7pm untill 1am!! It wasn't as bad as I had imagined.  We walked VERY slowly every where - stopping to look and talk about everything.  A beer, pizza and a Krispy Kreem Donut made the time go a little quicker.

Finally at 10pm we could check into the international airport.  The boys were very excited with their short train ride between terminals.  Caleb was a good boy and he had a sleep on a comfey chair for about 2 hours - Blake refused :)  Daddy had some sleep too.

The Cathay Pacific flight to Hong Kong was lovely.  Caleb continued to sleep for a few hours and Blake finally passed hour for a few hours - Daddy slept for a long time!  After what seemed ages - I looked at the plane map - only to find we were right on top of Cairns!! WHAT THE!

8 hours later we made it to Hong Kong and a quick wait till the final plane ride.  Daddy slept most of it (are you noticing a pattern here!!).

Blake got a little travel sick - While I was waiting in the line for the toilet - he threw up all over me!! Lucky mummy!! Luckily he hadn't eaten too much so it could have been much worse - Thanks to the lovely Elderly Asian man near us who found us a bag to catch the last bit.

The worst bit of the whole thing was immigration in Phuket!!!!!!!!!  we thought we scored by getting to skip the huge lines and stand in the family line - Blake immediately fell asleep in my arms but we stood there without the line moving one inch over an hour :(  Blake is Very heavy !!!!

BUT YAY WE MADE IT !!! YAY LETS START THE HOLIDAY!

22 days till we leave!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH SHIT!!

WOW I can not believe that in a few short weeks we will be locking the front door and setting off!

Preparations have been crazy!!  What does it take to get this family holiday organized???  Let's look at what we have been up to

  • Gardening - All the garden cut back so no one has to look after it for three months.  Thanks Heaps to my wonderful friends Tash and Jen who came over and took half of it home as cuttings for their gardens!!!  Saved us $$ in dumping fees and heaps of time!  We even managed to get two loads of free mulch.
  • Blake's Passport finally was organized and arrived a week ago.
  • Thailand Visas - We have sent off out passports to get two month visas - OMG it is quite stressful not knowing if they are safe!! hopefully they come back this week so I can be sure we will be able to leave the country :)
  • Caleb's schooling - I have been busy looking into subscriptions for homeschooling and reading websites.  He already has access to Reading eggs so that will get a work out.  Will do a post later on what sites I am hoping to use.
  • Cancelling what feels like 1 million things - from Daycare, to gym to phones, and the list goes on - still not sure I have covered everything.

FLIGHTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a shamozol with flights :(
We used webjet and booked quite expensive flights so as to minimise any stop over for the boys.  Now of course Jetstar have changed our 930 pm flight from Cairns (picked so the boys will be sleeping) and have changed it to a 430 time  NOT HAPPY JAN!  we are badgering them at the moment asking for some refund as the cheap flights we could have booked originally had a huge stop over like this and we would have saved ourselves more than $500 !!!!!!!!!!!!!  Webjet say it is Jetstar's fault and we need to talk to them - or they can KINDLY refund all our flights  - but that will take at least 6 weeks to get our money back!!!!!!!!!!!  Big cross for Webjet  X

Blake will miss his birthday when we are away so we have thrown a party in there for him "just for shits and giggles" as Megsy said!!!  - and the same weekend I have put the boys into the Cairns BMX carnival!!!!!!!!!!!!  Great idea Tina!!!!!!!!!!

Derryn has been working like a mad man to pay off the flights that are on the Credit card...
Report cards need to be done for school along with 100 other assessments and things!

All I keep thinking of is drinking of a beer on the beach at the moment - it is all that is keeping us going

Week in Phuket booked - FINALLY

After much searching we have finally decided upon our first place to call home.

http://www.baanpuriphuket.com/

It has proved very difficult to book rooms with 2 kids!!!  I know people must do it, maybe they have more money to spend than us!  Most of the time online booking will only let us book for 1 kid - a total of 3 persons.  If you have more money to spend - you CAN book two bedroom hotels - or adjoining rooms, but we are trying to keep to a budget!!

So in the end we have decided to try and look into apartments.  And that way we don't have to listen to Blake who is a noisy sleeper... grinding his teeth all night EEKKK

So this apartment we have found - Two bedroom, kids pool, provides toys for kids and all the things you would need if your kids were littler (like cot, pram, even sterilizer!! ).  All for $100 per night.  Well above our budget last time we travelled.... but hopefully once we get there Derryn will be able to get his bartering into swing and see what he can get for us!!

Supposed to be only 5 mins walk to the beach and the bars around it look nice - and family friendly!!

Another step closer...
